Underground trains

Many of the underground systems in major cities were built in the early 1900s. These underground systems will be upgraded in the coming years and be geared towards the needs of ever growing urban sprawl. Stadler has responded to this challenge with its METRO rolling stock.

METRO vehicles, which have between two and ten cars, are available as a classical underground train and with Jacobs-type bogies. The trains are lightweight, are built upon proven components and, like all rolling stock from Stadler, can be highly customised. METRO vehicles can be designed flexibly in order to facilitate flexible operating concepts. Trainsets can be configured to accommodate up to 900 passengers.

Stadler received its first order for METRO vehicles in 2012 from the Berlin-based BVG company. This was for underground trains of type IK BVG.
