Stadler Polska Sp. z o.o., Poland
In June 2006, Stadler Bussnang AG received its first order from Poland for the delivery of fourteen FLIRT trains for the Mazovia and Silesia provinces (ten for Mazovia and four for Silesia), and the maintenance of the vehicles for a period of three years. After having received these orders, the Stadler crew immediately started planning the assembly plant in Siedlce. It was decided that the Polish plant of the Stadler Group would be set up in Siedlce, because the city is situated on the railway line, has a long railway tradition, and offers easy access to a skilled workforce. Additionally, the local authorities actively supported the creation of Stadler’s assembly plant in Siedlce. The company rented and modernised a facility in Siedlce owned by the Polish railway company PKP. The old assembly hall was transformed into a modern plant with a total area of 5,000 m2. As a result, all of the fleet ordered by Stadler’s first Polish clients was produced in Siedlce.
The official opening of Stadler’s rail vehicle assembly plant in Siedlce took place on 5 September 2007. The first two vehicles produced for the Mazovia province were officially handed over on
31 May 2008. The remaining trains for Mazovia and Silesia were delivered to both provinces in accordance with the agreed schedule. In February 2010, the fourteen FLIRT trains produced and delivered by Stadler for the Mazovia and Silesia provinces were granted the permanent homologation by the Rail Transport Authority’s (Urząd Transportu Kolejowego) to run at a speed of up to 160 kph. The FLIRT train is the first Polish EMU to receive this permanent certification.
As there have not yet been further orders from the Polish market, in 2009 Stadler started producing GTW for the Dutch market. The roll-out of the first two trains took place in September 2009. At the moment, Stadler Polska specialises in the production of the electric FLIRT trains and the diesel GTW vehicles. Between 2010 and 2011, Stadler’s assembly plant in Siedlce will complete the orders for the Austrian operators Graz-Köflacher Railway and Bus Operation GmbH (13 vehicles) and Steiermärkische Landesbahn (6 vehicles), and Ferrovie Nord Milano (19 vehicles) in Italy.
Since all the orders completed in Poland fully met the requirements and standards of the customers and the Stadler Group, the company’s management decided to expand the assembly plant in Siedlce. The production area will be increased by about 1,500 m2. The initial assembly of the electric systems will be moved into a new building with the total area of 1,460 m2. Additionally, a warehouse for 1,600 pallets will be constructed. Following this expansion, the plant in Siedlce will be able to assemble approximately 2 four-unit FLIRT trains per month.
