STADLER and VIAS start FLIRTing

The 500th FLIRT from the Stadler company will travel along the Rhine from 2010. The contract was signed today at the Innotrans trade fair in Berlin.

Stadler Pankow GmbH has received an order from VIAS for the delivery of 12 four-part and 7 three-part regional trains of the FLIRT model.

The vehicles will be introduced onto the Rheingau sub-network from December 2010 and will run on the Frankfurt – Wiesbaden – Koblenz – Koblenz-Lützel line. The order has a value of approx. Euro 70 million.

„We are very proud“ said Michael Daum, the CEO of Stadler Germany, „that we have been able to announce the signing of this contract during the Innotrans 2008. We received the first ever order for the FLIRT regional train in the year 2002 – also at the Innotrans. In the meantime, the FLIRT has been successfully sold in Switzerland, France, Norway, Italy, Poland, Algeria, Finland, Hungary and Germany. We would like to thank our customer VIAS for their confidence in us. The 500th FLIRT will now travel along the Rhine in Germany. It goes without saying that this order will also secure jobs in our German factories.“

The vehicles for VIAS GmbH have a boarding area that has no steps or ramps, a barrier-free design of the passenger compartment and a toilet facility suitable for use by disabled persons WC in each vehicle. The three-part vehicles have seats for 170 persons, 8 of which in 1st Class, and 22 seats are planned as folding seats. There are 230 seats in the four-part FLIRTs, 16 of which in 1st Class, and a further 26 are planned as folding seats.

The interior is designed to be free from barriers and allows a clear passage through the passenger compartment without steps.
Each vehicle is also fitted with two platform lifts – these are located in the boarding area on opposite sides. In accordance with today’s requirements for a pleasant and comfortable journey, the vehicles are equipped with an efficient air conditioning system. Video surveillance in the external and internal area also increases the convenience with regard to safety.
The vehicles can travel at speeds up to 160 km/h.
