Aare Seeland mobil (ASm), Langenthal

ASm has placed an order of three innovative articulated trains STAR with Stadler Bussnang AG for service on the meter gauge line between Solothurn – Wiedlisbach – Niederbipp – Langenthal and the planned extension on to Oensingen. They are kind of a tram-train solution to deserve the city of Solothurn as well as the rural network. The main features are the powerful traction chain and the rapid acceleration, a large low-floor area as well as a spacious and bright passenger area. For service in the urban areas, these railcars are equipped with electromagnetic brakes and a shock absorbing front end. Additional technical features include a gradient capability of up to 70‰ as well as the ability to operate on tight curve radiuses of up to 40m.
