SBB Delivery order for 50 double-decker trains valued at CHF 1.024 billion
Stadler has been granted an order by Swiss Federal Railways SBB for the production and delivery of 50 electric double-decker electric multiply units (EMU) called DOSTO. The trains will run in the S-Bahn Zurich. The value of the order is CHF 1.024 billion, the new trains will start operation in 2011.
Switzerland’s biggest travel and transport company Schweizerische Bundes Bahnen (SBB) made a decision on 30 June about the tender it issued in April 2007. According to the result of the tender, Stadler Rail Group received an order for the delivery of 50 electric double-decker EMU’s. The value of the order is CHF 1.024 billion. The new double-decker trains in the agglomeration of Zurich will be delivered by Stadler by 2011, and will be operated by SBB on the railway lines of the S-Bahn Zurich.
The new double-decker EMU ordered by SBB is 150 meter long, and is able to transport 1,694 passengers each. The train is equipped with seating for 112 people on the first and 414 people on the second class. The maximum speed of the DOSTO reaches 160 km/h. Stadler’s news double-decker concept is called DOSTO.
