RhB announces Stage III of fleet concept
Media-release of RhB:
The acquisition of seven compositions for the Rhaetian Railways (RhB) Albula Line was signed and sealed on 20 December 2010. The chairman of RhB’s management board, Erwin Rutishauser, and the CEO of Stadler Rail AG, Peter Spuhler, signed the CHF 110 million contract in Samedan on the occasion of Rutishauser’s farewell tour, during which the ALLEGRA special train set a new speed record for metre-gauge railways with 145 km/h. The acquisition of the new articulated train combinations for the Albula Line initiates the important third stage of RhB’s fleet policy.

The Potsdam Variobahn on course
Today, the Supervisory Board of ViP Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam GmbH, together with the company management, saw the production status of the Variobahn at Stadler Pankow GmbH in Berlin for themselves for the first time.
The current production status is represented by the construction of the vehicle modules. The exterior vehicle design, the driver’s cab and the seating arrangement can all be seen. “After completion and assembly of the vehicle, the first tram will be sent to Velten in January for commissioning in our Service Centre,” says Michael Daum, Director of Stadler Pankow GmbH.

Stadler inaugurates ultramodern Train Commissioning Centre
Today, Dr Kaspar Schläpfer, the economic director of Thurgau, Roman Brülisauer, Erlen’s Mayor, and Peter Spuhler, owner and CEO of Stadler Rail Group, along with other guests and craftsmen, inaugurated the new Train Commissioning Centre (IBS Centre) in Erlen, Thurgau. Stadler has invested around CHF 30 million in the very latest train commissioning infrastructure at this site on the SBB mainline Zurich–Romanshorn. Here, 150-metre-long trains (manufactured in Bussnang and Altenrhein) undergo a 6-week testing and commissioning programme. A KISS for Luxembourg
Stadler Pankow receives an order for the delivery of eight KISS double-decker multiple-unit trains from the Société nationale des chemins de fer luxembourgeois (CFL).
The Société nationale des chemins de fer luxembourgeois is ordering 8 three-carriage double-decker multiple-unit trains for operation in Luxembourg and across the border to Germany, with an option on up to a further 31 units, which will be in operation from 2013. The order is worth around EUR 60 million.

Intercity FLIRT for Norway
Tormod Gjermundsen, Vice President, NSB Passenger Division and head of Technical Division of Norwegian State Railways (NSB), and Peter Spuhler, owner and CEO of Stadler Rail Group, have presented the first intercity FLIRT train at the InnoTrans trade fair in Berlin today. NSB have ordered 50 of these FLIRTs, which will partly replace the existing vehicles. This represents the largest fleet renewal in the history of NSB.
